Black Eagle II, adjustment

I am a new owner of a Beneli Black Eagle II. In order to sight down the barrel it is necessary to press my cheek against the stock. With a heavy load that smarts. I see that there are shims available that go between the reciever and stock, but no explanation of what they would achieve. Does anyone have a clue?

Shims

The shims included with your gun are to adjust the stock drop and cast. The stock drop shim would adjust your view when sighting down your sights. The cast shim would adjust for a left or right hand shooter. They should be marked as such.
