I played with all sorts of gizmos on my shotgun and went back to an 870 with plain wood stock, 18 1/2" barrel and extended magazine. I didn't like the folding stock and really can't think of why I needed it anyway. You still have to aim a shotgun and the wood stock works better for me. I did add a flashlight with a curly cord and pad. I don't ever expect to need more than 6 rounds of 00 in my home, and if I do it is time for the AK to come out to play.
If you don't mind buying used you should be able to come up with a supurb home defense shotgun for under $300.00.
