A fantastic shotgun is the good 'ole Mossberg 500. Very reliable and durable. Execellent for both hunting and home defense. Plus, being a 12 gauge, it's easy to find ammo for it too. It's not too expensive of a gun either. |

Don't overlook the NEF pumps. Just another suggestion. __________________ From C3Shooter:

i also agree with the mav88...the ones i've seen in wal-mart are 177.00 before tax...28inch ventrib barrel can easily sawed off to what ever ya want..just dont go past 18inch's...most places that sell short barreled shottys make theyre barrels 18 1/2 long just to be on the safe side..i bought my used mav88 from a pawnshop for 100bucks...after cutting down the barrel to exactly 18inches from bolt face adding a 6rd side saddle and a pistol grip...i spent less then 200.00 on a neat lil handy beside the bed HD shotgun...just remember most after market forearm grips want work with the mav88 for some reason?...you'll have to cut about 2inches off your forearm stock to clear the 6rd side saddle...but it want look to bad... ...good luck with your purchase. |

Hawk 982 has a nice set of ghost ring sights that would cost you as much as the shotgun if you bought similar set after market and had them installed. It's the same shotgun as the NEF Pardner Protector but they have different style receivers. Both are made by Hawk Ind. They are 870 style shotguns and all 870 parts will fit. These shotguns are more durable than the Maverick 88 and they can accept a tube extension, the 88 can't. You have to remove the whole mag tube on the 88 and Moss 500 just to clean the tube and change out the mag tube spring. Something to consider.

I personally have a Moss 500 (7+1 round) I payed like $330 out the door. And It came with a pistel grip. Love it. Strongly suggest you get that one. I have shot the 870 as well and it was not bad either. |
