I think it could be very helpful for home defense if you have a trench in your living room.

Wasn't high on my favorite things list either, but it was an unfortunate part of the job at times.

How about World War 1 trench warfare?

BTW, the Mossberg 590 is not the only or the first shotgun with a bayonet lug. It's not the one that was used in real trench warfare either (to my knowledge).

I think shotguns may have also been used by the Tunnel Rats in Vietnam to clear the tunnels of Viet Cong and/or NVA. I don't know if they were equipped with bayonets though I wouldn't doubt it.

Mossberg 590. not 500, is available from Mossberg with a bayonet mount. Give them a call. Or get a roll of duct tape and a steak knife......

It's weird that I haven't been able to find one for a 500. It seems like somebody would have made one by now. Or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. I don't really want to go out and buy a 590 just so I can have a bayonet lug . I guess I'll see if I can find a decent gunsmith in my area.

Apparently somebody made some for the 500 but quit; that auction ended at like $200. I only gave $100 for my 500, used.

edit* Know anybody in Canadia? http://www.oneshottactical.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=oneshot&Produc t_Code=FM-BAY-Kit-870&Category_Code=Shotgun +2 tube extension with bayonet mount.
