Default Ammo and attachment recs

My wife and I had a little scare the other tonight, she thought she heard the door open, I went to check thank God it was nothing but I realized I wasn't to familiar with my 12 gauge Harrington and Richardson shot gun and I was just wondering what type of Ammo I should use. Right now I have a bird shot but is this the best ammo for the gun? Also I have a 6 round holder on the butt of the gun and a flashlight on the lower barrel. I'm not a big fan of alot of unnecessary attachments, is there anything I can do with or without?

I would not want to get shot with any type of 12 gauge round!

Yeah anything would work but I personally prefer #6 or larger.

you need something that will reliably penetrate the breast bone to incapacitate a goblin in his tracks. some sort of buckshot is ideal. its got enough weight in each pellet to reliable get into the boiler room and disrupt a goblin's plumbing.

while birdshot can be effective its not ideal or reliable. much like 22lr its great if thats all you got, but you do need a real defensive shot loading.

What's your stance on attachments and accessories? Whats needed and not needed to be safe and effective.

I dont have a light on my gun. I feel like if I had one in a dark room it would give away my position...possibly before I locate the bg.

I have a light on my shotgun but it comes off in under 2 seconds when i want it off. For HD i use #4 and 00buck due to the variables that i have. The target below is from 10ft with Remington Express #4

My opinion a home defense gun should have nothing attached to it. Homes are very small environments your not going to be clearing rooms other than securing loved ones. Slings lights ammo racks lasers will just hang up on clothing bedding blankets etc.

If your light is attached to the firearm you have to point it at your loved ones to assess conditions or wounds... any light should be seperate from the gun. Fumbling in the dark half asleep trying to get a light off a loaded firearm is just a recipe for disaster.

Im of the opinion keep it simple. Others will likely have a different opinion.
