I just found the ergonomics of a pistol grip on a shotgun to be more of a liability than a asset. Ymmv
I put a full buttstock WITH a pistol grip on my Mossy, better control of a PG and comfort of a real stock if you need it. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/SHT-265 similar to that but simpler.

Good choice, the 88 was my first gun and I've used AND abused it for years and it keeps going.

I had my maverick 88 for 17 years. it wasn't my first shotgun, but it was my first pump action. i beat the snot out of that shotgun, and it never failed to work when I needed it to. I gave it to a fried's son when he started hunting a few years ago. When he has kids of his own, he plans on passing it down to them. Over 22 years, and still going strong. I call that a good investment. I still use my dad's old Mossberg bolt action 20 gauge, and it was built in the late 1940s. Good to see that the current generation of the Mossberg family is keeping up the tradition of inexspensive, well built, reliable shotguns and rifles.
