Default 1st shotgun

I'm looking to buy my first shotgun, anything I should be looking for? I'm going to mainly be using it for fun and some trap shooting. I've looked at the remington 870 express and mossberg 500. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a Mossberg 500 with the 28 in barrel and a 18.5 in barre. It's a nice gun for $260 dollars!! I really like it

Are you (or other living in the household who may need to use it) a Southpaw (I.E. left handed)??
You might want to consider a Ithica model 37; http://www.ithacagun.com/ It loads and ejects from the bottom... I would also recommend the Remington 1100 if you're interested in a semi.

I'm a southpaw shooter and I've never had a problem shooting my Mossberg. I would love to have an Ithaca 37!

Also check.our the benelli nova and Winchester super x pump...I'm not a big fan of the Remington or Mossberg...the best advice I can give though is check out a lot different guns before you buy

I highly recommend benelli pump shotguns! I have both the nova and super nova in 12 gauge. They are much better bang for your buck than the 870 or 500. Availability of accessories is the only factor in which those two surpass the benellis.

Ithacas are nice and I admit to having a bit of a soft spot for them.
However, you might also do well to look at the Browning BPS. It also ejects out the bottom. It might be a bit easier to find & at a better price. It's not like Browning quality is a huge compromise either.
