I want to buy one of these 1887 shotguns, but it would be coming from elsewhere so i can not handle it first.

It looks to me like it would sit very high in front of your face, is this significant?

Any experience would be much appreciated.

The center line of the bore of the Winchester 1887 style shotgun is a bit above the top of the buttplate. As a result, they DO have a tendency for the muzzle to rise on firing.

yeah i figured that would be the case, but being a manually cycled firearm that's not too much of an issue, M14 syndrome.

I more meant in terms of it feeling unnatural, but if it's not mentioned it must not be terrible.

I was amused by the forewood being on the sides as opposed to actually covering the bottom of the tubemag Fun.

Was just told that Arnie's T2 shotgun is one of these with the grip cut down, it made me smile

I've been really fetishizing over lever actions, but most levers you can get here are .44s and 30-30s, not really ideal or practical for dealing with large volumes of bunnies. Shotguns are where it's at, so when I learn of this leveraction shotgun, I am there. All the way.

The old A5 had a big hump it was never a problem for shot gunners. The 87' is a lever gun not an auto or pump. Rise and recovery with a lever action is
not a problem. They are not rapid fire shot guns to start with. In order to lever one of these old guns you will lose your line of sight most of the time.

That's the only grief with the Norinco one, the fact that it is NEW.
The wood is all yellow and varnished, looks ****e in my opinion, but it's pretty easy to refinish wood to make it look 'aged'.

What is it exactly that those initials denote?

ps is that water or gin/vodka?

Mr. Hawg didn't I read some where that many of these had rifled barrels? The rifled 10 Ga. mdls. were shipped to Africa? Winchester had J.Browning design this lever shotgun. The short life of lever shotguns ended with the advent of the Old 97 pumps and later Mdl of 1912 at Winchester. Wouldn't it be nice if Winchester was doing this kind of R&D today.
