11-87 Super Mag

I have a 12 ga Remington Super Mag. It will not eject shells up into the chamber. When you shoot the 1st shell the chamber stays open like the gun is empty. I have taken the gun down and cleaned it and still the same problem. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

My roommate was just given one of these shotguns as well, and when cycling by hand it seems to have a similar issue. I'm gonna look at it with him tonight and see if we cannot figure it out.

any info would be good...

Sounds like possibly a bent carrier latch. After firing the first shell, is the second shell in the magazine releasing into the receiver, and just not loading from there? If so, that's the carrier latch. If the second shell is not releasing, but the bolt is going back and staying, the gas system is okay, it's something with the shell release.
Tell your roommate that when you cycle it by hand, it is supposed to stay open. Some don't if you jerk the operating handle back and release it instantly, but there is nothing wrong with the gun. Tell him to try reading the instruction manual.

No instruction manual, gun was handed to him by a friend and he has no real experience with shotguns, especially semi autos.

Thanks for the info though, we're gonna take it shooting soon, he wants to to just be a home defense gun, probably gonna bring the barrel down to 18" and ad a mag tube extension.

Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks for the info, if it is the carrier latch can they be straightened, or is it better to order a new one?

They can be straightened, but once they have been bent they seem to bend again more easily. Plus, you better have a good one to go by when you try to straighten it.
Good luck.
