I appreciate the tip hiwall. When I had it apart, I took a .45 brush to the chamber. But was afraid to get too aggressive. I do think the chamber needs to be polished, but rather have it done by a pro. I'll post a follow up, and photo when I get it back.

I picked up my Winchester from the gunsmith on Friday. The issue was two fold. Lightly rusted chamber and the entire extractor assembly was missing. Apparently the rusty chamber made it hard to extract and the assembly gave out. $115 parts/labor and everything is tip top. Thanks for all the advice.

Default Resurrecting an old thread

Haven't been here in a while. Long story short... my Winchester 100 was working in 2011... I fired a few rounds and it was extracting/ejecting fine. Got it dialed in, ready to hunt. I used my Marlin 308 X7 during the rut and planned on using the Winny 100 for extended doe. Well no does so I cleaned it and put it up for the year. Decided to test fall 2012. Not working again. Take it back to the gunsmith and they fixed it no charge, but completely missed deer season so used the 308. Got it back and it worked great. Went hunting 2013 and took a button buck in the morning and a nice 9pt in the evening. 2014 bought my daughter an Axis II XP in 243. We both used it during different hunts, and really am loving the 243. Went out this week to test the Winny 100 and it's not extracting/ejecting again. This rifle is clean as a whistle and I can pry the spent shell out with a finger nail. I took a 45 brass brush from the breech and used a rod from the muzzle. Soaked it with breakfree and used a drill on the muzzle end of the rod. I gently but aggressively scrubbed the chamber. Then cleaned the hell out of it with solvent and compressed air. Then a light breakfree wipe down and bore snake. No change... but she is clean. The gunshop I used is now closed. And I am not a happy camper. It's not a tack driver, but a beauty of a gun. Plus it was my dad's. He bought it new when mom was pregnant with me back in 1970. He took a lot of heat from her for buying a new rifle with another baby on the way. I guess I can take it to another gunshop and see if they can fix it.

If anyone has any ideas, I am open. She may just become a safe queen.

Check the extractor for damage, freedom of movement, crud under extractor.
