i think that title should be claimed by sks or ak myself. and according to some AR owners, it should be AR as they all are so cheap now.

but anyway, i am poor(ish), and a man, and i have a mini 14....soooo

anyway, i love my mini 14. great gun!

If "best" means cheap available ammo, ease of maintenance, parts availability, accuracy and reliability, I would have to say the Browning BAR.

If "best" means fun to shoot and accurate then it's my AR's.

If best means "Made in America", scattergun, and NO parts sold to the public, I would have to say Ruger all the way.
steve.....shame on you!

Every time I go the range and see someone with a mini-14 it reminds me of watching the A-Team

IMHO:

22LR-- the Marlin 60

intermediate cartridge--The SKS with original 10 round internal mag.

long cartridge-- The Garand with the 8-round clip.

This is simply one opinion based on personal experience.

YMMV...
One can do a lot worse than a Marlin Model 60, and there isn't much that will stop one.
The SKS is a good pick as well, they are cheaper and at least as accuate (if not more so) than a Mini 30.
The Garand is a great weapon, though I'd prefer an M-14...though the M1 is a much more durable and proven itself and fared better in combat.
Good picks!

I wouldn't trade an SKS or AK for all the Mini-14s ever made.

Yeah, the real trouble is narrowing it down to one...

IMHO the original M14 is a "compromise changeling" which

is a great collector's milsurp, but very limited by the NATO

(7.62X51) round, which is weaker than the .308.

Now, take a M1A, in .308, and put a Stoner-style stock

on her, and you have one helluva gun( and a hurting bank account)...
