Pretty much any commbloc gun is gonna met your requirements. Some may be nicer than others, but ak's are reliable usually no matter the way the cosmetics look.

I have two. An AK-47 and an AK-74.

The small, light, accurate AK-74 in 5.45X39 is awesone.

For the money the SKS is a great buy. You can find them all over the net for around $300.00. Go to YouTube, and you will find that there are a lot of people who think the SKS is a better built weapon than the AK47, and I agree. I own one of each. You can leave the SKS in its original antique wood furniture, our go hog wild turning it into a modern Zombie killer. The accuracy of the SKS is outstanding do to the fact the receive is one solid piece of machined steel opposed to the AK 47 which is all stamped material riveted together.

CZ makes a great AK style rifle. They have a tactical "black rifle" version too.

Very adept advice! Some make a big deal of which communist bloc country it originates from (i.e. Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, etc.) but the condition of the weapon is more important. The companies like CZ that make new manufacture AKs give the advantage of tighter tolerances than the 1950's manufacturing dates and more modern ballistics.

So really the only question is whether you appreciate the little extra work of owning an antique or whether you want brand new 2012 black rifle look and tolerances.

Reliable & wood furniture ... hmmm ... the only thing that immediately comes to mind is a WASR-10 or WASR-10/63 Romanian AK-47. I am sure there are many others out there as well.

The cool thing about the wasr 10/63 is you can diythe wood to any color you want and there is no possible way to make it uglier than when you started...

Trading for a Glock would be uglier.
