I've been thinking about getting an ar10. Then I saw an outdoors show and they were talking about an m1a1 in a carbine. Both guns are vary appealing but I'm wondering about any pros or cons ,can I use them hunting, are there other calibers like 30-06 ,338,243or223. Is there a big price differents? I live in Wisconsin so is there any legal issues . Looking for advice and by the way MERRY CHRISTMAS! everyone thanks for your help |

check out:
DPMS: AR-15 Rifles, Parts and Accessories.
Numerous calibers on the basic Ar-10 base. Legal for hunting in most states. (check with your game department for your states laws.)
I have the LR-308-AP4 and I love iot. __________________ Freedom has a special sweetness for those who have defended it that those who haven't will never know. |

AR-10 is a heavy rifle, one I really wouldn't want to be carrying around all day. M1 Carbine round is anemic, to say the least. Neither would be particularly useful in the hunting category. Questions are what are you hunting and where. What is the longest shot you would take? Bolt action rifle would probably suit you better. |

Ron, the beauty of the DPMS LR 308 AP4 with 16 inch barrel is that it's only 3/4 pound heavier than the .223 version.
The old AR-10 is indeed heavy. That's why DPMS made an M-4 version that is light.
Of course 100 rounds of 7.62X51 ammo is heavier than 200 rounds of 5.56X45. Unfortunately, there's no way of getting around that! __________________ Freedom has a special sweetness for those who have defended it that those who haven't will never know. |

IMO, it depends on your body mass.
If you're 150 lbs. soaking wet, then
the AR10 is heavy.
If you're 6'2", 250 lbs plus, that AR10 isn't
going to weigh you down as much.
Who carries 200 rounds hunting? WTS?? |

Good point!
I was thinkiing of carrying the rifle for "serious social shooting." __________________ Freedom has a special sweetness for those who have defended it that those who haven't will never know. |

Are you referring to "aggressive negotiations"? |
