Can't go wring with a 516.
Love mine and the lower is nicer than a lot of other premium lowers IMO

What kind of break in period? What happens during the break in period? I haven't shot mine yet. Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't noticed any break in with my 516.

Theoretically I would say its easier to short cycle with softer ammo if your moving parts (to include the piston system) are all new and unworn.

I also noticed the 516 has an H buffer and not a standard carbine buffer. This could also explain the short cycling we are experiencing.

I know what short cycling is when talking about refrigerant compressors, but what does it mean when talking about rifles?

Short cycling in AR platforms is when the bolt doesn't come back far enough to clear the magazine and allow the next round to be chambered. It's a cause of FTFeeds. Sometimes it doesnt even come back enough to eject the brass. This can be caused by a blocked gas tube or underpowered ammunition. A heavier buffer puts more resistance on the bolt as it comes back, so it takes more force to move it all the way to the back. The bolt not locking back on an empty mag is another possible sign of short stroking.

This isn't exactly what I experienced with my 516, this is just a general statement about short-stroking

it means when the charge of the exploding pwder in the bullet is not enough to fully cycle the bolt back enough to chamber the next round.

You till get a bang but the next round is not chambered.

In the ammo shortage alot of folks have fired softer ammo like Tula 223 and see short cycling in premium carbines balanced for full power 5.56mm ammo.

There IS a difference in charge between 223 and .556. When I fire PMC breanze 223 or PMC Xtac556 the muzzle flash and report are noticeably greater with the 5,56

they are both different and superior.
the 556 is interesting rifle for a collection but the 516 (in 5.56mm) or the 716(in 7.62) are superior products IMO.

I will post a pic of my 516 when I get home : )
