What's an "Assault" rifle? Assault is a verb, rifle a noun. The rifle can't do anything by it's self, so that term just doesn't make sense around here.

Will there be an attempt to reinstall, and further, the heinous AWB (Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act) that was brought to by the good folks of the Klinton Administration?

Thus I believe is the crux of the question you are asking.

First Obama has to win, which is possible, but I am going to be surprised to be honest.

If he wins, there will be an immediate run on gun stores by people looking to do exactly as you are questioning, get one before they are gone. Guns stores, in turn, will have already jacked up their prices to make ridiculous profits on soon to be unavailable items. Circle of commerce, nothing you can do there.

If he wins I absolutely do personally think they will try to re-introduce AWB part deux and make it wider in scope.

Once that is announced, prices will go through the roof, again, there will be an immediate run on the gun stores again, by people who didn't get in on the first panic purchase.

And by then it will be too late because backlogs will be in year time frame as they were in 1995 ish.

So if you can not afford to purchase a complete gun now, I would recommend buying something like an AR receiver, which is the only part that will need pre-approval for purchase.

Then you can build it down the line as more cash becomes handy, or you know for a fact that all the toys will taking a hiatus again.

I edited your original title to reflect a less anti-gun name. Please do not buy into the anti-gun renaming of our beloved rifles. The "anti's" attach emotional names/titles to innanimate objects to make them seem "scary". This then allows them to push for legislation based not on fact, but on emotion. An AR-15 with all the military features (except full auto fire) is no more "dangerous" than the same rifle that has been neutered by removing the flash hider, bayonet lug and collapsible stock.

Buy a gun, any gun, based on your needs, wants and training level. Please do not go on an impulse buying spree for items you will not need or use. In 2008 many people bought guns/ammo based on the expectation of restriction by the Oblama administration. The truth was no such onerous regulation passed over the last 4 years. All that was accomplished was an increase in price for those who actually wanted one.

i am planning on getting a bcm or ak, problem is, if i have enough to get one, which should i consider?
my current needs are:
Home defense rifle (5.56 sounds good)
target shooting
reliability
i waslooking for a ak101 (chambered in 5.56) but heard that aks might have a problem with ejecting the long cased 5.56 compared tothe short necked 7.62 and 5.45....any thoughts on this?
the ak101 by arsenal sounded great to me. why?:
1. ak simplicity, rugged, reliable,
2. can take more time witho out cleaning compared to ar15 direct impingment design,
3. 5.56 less recoil than 7.62 and more common than 5.45(ak74)....
4. more accurate
any suggestions?

This is not just about Obama, he needs a Congress to cooperate. I think he has more pressing socialist agenda items to tackle, before alienating a lot of the current Democratic base (there are a LOT of Democratic gun owners in my state, MN as well as in neighboring WI. He may be a socialist, but not a stupid socialist). The sad part is, the gun companies are making out like bandits, so are gun shops, because of the fear that this guy will do away with so-called "assault rifles". It sure doesn't help that there seems to be just enough nut-jobs using these rifles for evil purposes!

No on can predict what will happen to prices, I agree with the guys above, if you want one and can afford it, go ahead and get one. My guess is that this whole situation is a lot more complicated than "does Obama get re-elected"

Prices are going to drop after the election. Personally I would wait until after Christmas, unless you need interest free financing. When Congress comes back into session they are going to be tied up by the budget for quite a while. I don't think Obama is going to push for an assault weapon ban. The Democrats had control of congress for almost 40 years until the last assault weapon ban. There were a few years when Republicans controlled congress but they never got a veto proof majority. The Democrats got voted out in huge numbers after that last assault weapons ban. There isn't enough support in the Democratic party to get any more gun laws through congress. We have two Democratic congressmen in my NC district that have a conservative agenda. Both are rated A+ by the NRA. Now we just need to get rid of Kay Hagan.
