Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 .22 cal sighting in problems
Has anyone had a problem with getting this M&P15-22 sighted in ? I bought my girlfriend this because she liked mine I have her rear sight maxed out at it's highest setting and it is still shooting low at 30 yards. This is on my girlfriends firearm. I have the same firearm and had to only adjust the windage 2 clicks and it is right on

Is there anything loose? Give it the once over to make sure there isn't something loose that's screwing with you. It can drive you crazy.
Have you messed with the front sight any? It should be able to take up some of the slack.

How about a bore 30 or 40 yards you should be able to see at night and align the sights to that. May show where you are off...

There is a small key to turn the sights easier but yeah you will need to lower the front sight and raise the rear to make shots go up and opposite for down. Mine was dead on out the box but when j put the magpul mbus on it they were way off and I actually liked the stock sights better. They are metal and the hole on the rear is alot neater when looking through. Only reason I kept the magpuls on is because they flip down and I have a red dot I use. Works great.

Thank you for the info I did not dare to mess with the front sight due to S&W not saying a thing about it in there sighting in the firearm procedure.

Note: I don't own a S&W M&P 15. I'm going on the assumption that S&W didn't reinvent the wheel & it's similar to every other AR front sight.

I assume that you front sight on those is similar to that on a M-16. Those were designed in such a way you could use a 5.56 round as a tool. If you look at it there is a little detent pin that you press down to allow rotation of the sight. There are of course specific tools available as well. A small punch or a pen will do the trick. If you mess with it, you should be able to figure it out.

Where do I find this tool you speak of ? If I have a good selection of tools, Special driver tips, or maybe a small socket, or is there a specific tool for that ?

Pic of front sight with pin to depress on right. That frees up the sight pin for rotation.

Hope that helps.
