Should I trade my Mossberg 500 for an this SKS?

A guy I know is looking for an "assult" shotgun for home protection, and wants to trade his SKS, I'm unsure which I want more...

I'm not that familiar with SKSs but I built my shotgun and know it inside and out.

Here's the SKS

And here's my shotgun

What do you want to use it for? The SKS would be better for ranges beyond 40 yds. For home defense the shot gun is best. The SKS is good to about 200 yds. as far as accuracy. I have a Yugo SKS, arguably the best one made, but it only shoots 2-3" at 100yds. with the iron sights, and because of the removeable bolt cover, mounting a scope is virtually a waste of money. The SKS is a fun gun to shoot, much cheaper to shoot, and a good deer rifle for ranges greater than your shotgun. It all depends on what you want it to do.

I didn't know Maverick was Mossberg? I know they sell for about $125, but for shooting someone in your house what else do you need? lol

yea they be mossbergs, I sell the maverick home defense version new for 169,after looking at his pics closer I see his has a top tang safety , mavericks are on the trigger guard

I've seen the Maverick at Dicks Sporting Goods real cheap. They looked ok for home defense. I was considering one to park in the closet. Are they not good for home defense?

there ok there just not built as tough, H & R makes for the same price as the maverick that to me is a little better.

i think the maverick is supposed to be an economy version of the m-500s and 590s. i carried a 590 in Haiti and a 500 in iraq. can't go wrong with a mossberg.

I have an H&R Topper in 20ga. It was my first shotgun many years ago, but it's a break-action single shot. They make a pump?

I have several Mossberg firearms from 30+ years ago. I like them all - they were not expensive, but they are still shooting fine! I have a 50+ yr old Ithaca Mod. 37 Featherlight? that has satisfied all of my extremely limited shotgunning needs. Full choke, 30" barrel - good turkey gun. I was looking at something shorter for strictly defensive purposes - I like the Mossberg Mod.500, but maybe the Maverick would be better suited for something that will hopefully never get used.
