I'm deciding on a new gun mostly just to buy that's cheap and fun to shoot. I'm between the SKS and the HP 995ts. Which shall it be? Thanks for your help!

Pros and cons. pro: The High point is an accurate rig. Con: 50 yard range.
SKS is accurate, ammo is available, range is about 200 yards. If you reload, 9mm is real cheap to reload, brass for the SK can be pricey.

What it really boils down to is what do you expect do with it.
If its mostly plinking I'd go with the 995 based on initial cost,ammo cost and warranty,plus its a hoot to shoot.
That said,when my friends and I get together at their camp we plink from 75 to 150 yards out and the SKS is always brought along,but it is heavier and bit harder to clean,ammo costs a little more too.

I have to vote for the SKS. The SKS is pretty much built like a tank. Surplus ammunition is still plentiful and moderately priced. It can be a plinker or a decent shtf rifle. It gives you more range and a more powerful round.
