Semi-Auto for under $300

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I am looking for a semi-automatic rifle for under 300 dollars for hunting purposes. I would like it to at least be able to shoot accurately at 150 yards and also to be durable, reliable (doesnt jam) and holds lots of rounds . Does anyone have recommendations as to which type of gun to get? Thx

I think you're pretty much limited to the SKS in that price range... but for 3 bills you can get an SKS, a couple zytel 20 or 30 round mags and quite a bit of ammo (if you shop around!) The SKS is more accurate than the AK (at least in my experience) and will easily reach out to the 200 yard range with authority. Good luck, and enjoy the shopping!

the saiga, a sporterized ak47, in 223, 308, 7.62-39, and ? more. cost to me was 279.00 plus shipping and a ffl transfer fee from my local gun shop. got mine at gilbert's guns in kentucky. found the ad on gunbroker, called them direct, after contacting my local gunshop for transfer info, and had my BRAND NEW inside and out hunting rifle in 223. love it, works flawless and has all the goodies, chrome lined barrel, good sights, good mag, and dependablity. just my .02.

I have to ask. Why does it need to be high capacity? Most states have laws regarding max capacity in a hunting rifle. Get something that you are comfortable with and get good at shooting it.

Thanks for the tip. I've done a little reading about the Saiga since I read it, and it looks like the deal of the decade. Only question now is, 7.62x39 or .308?

Saiga .223

Don't overlook the .223 carbine Saiga. The furniture is cheap plastic, but the parts that count are steel. Recoil is non-existent for all practical purposes. All the Saigas come with a 10 round mag and new ones are $25 +. They function flawlessly, however.

I have fancier .308's, but the ammo is much more expensive. And I like to keep at least 1000 rounds for each weapon.

;)

An SKS or a Saiga in 7.62x39 would be great choices for shooting under 200 yards on that kind of budget. :)

Posted this on the "AK-47" thread: FBMG, Inc., is a good source for Saigas.
