Default SCAR 17 to 16?

I know that the components on a SCAR 17 an 16 is 82 percent compatible however if you get a 17 in the .308 cal and buy a 5.56 barrel can you fire both rounds threw the Scar 17. Just wondering if anyone knows it would be awesome if you could.

If you only buy the different barrel then it will not work. I'm not sure if it can be done at all but from the information you gave me it is already impossible.

fn has talked about conversions for the 556 but no concrete evidence of anything in the pipe. there are kits available to use at least 243 from hi-desert dog.
