Saw a Century Arms C93 listed for sale yesterday

So I was browsing on-line retailers before work yesterday when I saw that a Century Arms C93 was in stock and priced at $850.

I know that seems like a steal in today's market, but let's break down what the lucky buyer got (Since it is now out of stock)

First, they paid $200 to $300 more than what it was selling for in December.

Despite it's looks, it is not a "new" rifle. The C93 is made from surplus parts from HK33's, 43's, and 93's. (FYI - No one really knows the difference between a 43 and a 93, not even HK.) So the rifle is "new" in the sense that no one has previously owned it before, but is probably 90% assembled from parts that are older than some of our forum members. It is not an HK rifle anymore than me going down to the junkyard and building a Corvette from spare parts is a "Chevy".

The magazines are proprietary and completely discontinued. Which means finding any additional magazines (It does come with 2 x 40 rounders) amounts to finding them used somewhere. Considering the current market, good luck.

The quality of the rifles rate somewhere between complete pieces of junk to the best HK close you'll ever find. Actually, those are the only ratings. I am concerned over the utter lack of solidly mediocre reviews and comments around these guns.

Maybe they bought it to speculate. Oops, AWB is DOA. Good luck. Some sucker MIGHT take it off your hands for a solid grand. Considering the $850 may have had other taxes and fees associated with it, you're looking at maybe a $100 to $200 profit. Not really worth my time and effort, but depending on your occupation and free time available, a good investment? That's if you can offload it quick because I suspect the rabid demand is dying off and this is no AR-15 or AK that is all over the news.

As a $600 rifle, I'm interested. Discontinued parts and all, I'd looked at these for awhile which is why it was even on my radar. Anything north of $600? Not worth it. Just thought this whole thing was an interesting window and perspective on the current firearms market.

My local fleet farm has one for 839.99 and has been their for close to 2 months which confuses me with how semi autos flew off the shelfs the last 3 months

The monkeys at Century did such a fine job building CETME's, what could possibly go wrong? The HK/CETME/PTR platform was extremely popular partially because of the easy to obtain (and innexpensive) G-3 mags. I probably have 30 of them

I think it's a good deal (for the time of all this BS) my friend just bought one for 1k 3weeks ago. It's a great gun super accurate no kick because its kinda heavy but still worth it.

No offense, but my whole point is that it is not a good deal. They were selling for under $600 in December, close to $550.

Bought some Norinco SKS's back in the late 80's NIB for $62.00 ea... just sold my last for $550.00. Why the increase? No more importation per the Clinton ban.
I do not belive many HK-33 kits will come to our shores again. Even if you get a lemon, these can be re-built by a good smith for a 1/4 the price of a real HK-93 and work just as well.I paid $550.00 to the door for my C93's ... Last November it seemed kinda high, and now...
