the bipod doesn't weigh that much at all, 2lbs maybe. That one in the pic is a Burris 6"-9" with a swivel base. It has a lot of rotation built in and it locks into the different heights.
I don't know about the weight issue, the whole set up only weighs 10-11lbs. That doesn't bother me one bit.

the only problem is my has a different hand guard...it is the sportical so it looks like a super sized ar-15. Mine does not feel that heavy, i have not put it on the scale but it does not feel that bad even though it is the heaviest one i own. Mine looks like this so i am not sure if a bipod will work with it.
change out the handguards - get a DPMS smooth handguard or a railed handguard. On the smooth handgaurd you can install a swivel stud. On the railed handguard you can install a bipod mount.
