After 30 posts of information you tell us this?

Well, since you are still in doubt as to which would be louder, even after posts by people who have actually fired both the AK and the AR, I suggest maybe you should do yourself a big favor and test out your theorized hypothesis, by renting the two, shooting them both, stand by as someone else shoots them both, and form your own final conclusions.

Well, when I was in, they didn't issue AK47s to us but we did fire the M16 and the M14. 7.62X51 being a bit bigger than the 7.62X39. My favorite, the M14, was a bit louder and had slightly more recoil than the M16. But then, again, it spoke with a bit more authority. |

If you just looking to shoot in city limits and not go to jail, im surprised no one suggested sub sonic ammo and or a silencer, and if any one can tell you more about this, iv only seen them once in my life about 5 yrs ago and it was only 2 rounds, but a buddy of mine got a hold of a gas powered .22 round, it is the only round i ever seen with a blue projectile, he said they were silent and i went outside and shot it, the only noise i herd was the firing pin striking and the bullet hitting the tree, all the above might be something to look into. |

Was the M14 a lot louder or just a little bit. I read that the 5.56 is almost as loud because of the chamber pressure and muzzle velocity making the difference between the two not that great, is that true?

Yeah but i like noise and I really want to shoot and M16 and AK-47 which is why I'm wondering which is louder.

Well I can go up in the mountains for free and don't have to rent any time so my only limitation will be how much ammo I have. |

This is a pretty good discription. The M4 will kick slightly less than the AK as far as recoil goes. I would have to say the AK is slightly louder and has more of a deeper crack.

The M4 will have no recoil compared w/ the AK47. The big issue w/ the 47 is muzzle climb. The 47 is also prone to allot of flexing compared to the AR15/M16 platform. The reason the Soviets went to the AK74 is that it addressed the flexing and muzzle climb, + gave an extra 200 yards of accurate range. I shoot a 74 and an AR15. The AR is slightly more accurate, but the AK74 is no slouch. Mine w/ a Tapco G2 trigger and that little 16" barrel is outstanding. Crack, Bang, I don't really care. My Cetme goes boom. That makes me warm and fuzzy! __________________ Freedom is not free. The best of us always leave too soon. |

Kick and recoil are two different things, kick is for bolt action rifles and recoil or muzzle climb is for assault rifles. |
