Opinions on Ruger SR556
The topic says it all. Opinions on this rifle please? I have a 182 series Mini 14 and decided that I "need" a more accurate rifle that is suitable for mounting a red dot sight on. My son will take over the Mini. I looked at the S&W M&P and the Colt, and found myself drawn to the Ruger. The piston design is said to be superior also.

All opinions appreciated. All advice welcome although not always taken.

Just my humble opinion, but it's still a Ruger.:(

I would consider any real AR better.

It's a nice concept and a good looking rifle but a good friend of mine had one and when we went shooting my S&W mp15 did a lot better than his (the way the piston hits the bolt carrier made the carrier tilt to where it would scrape against the bottom of the buffer tube and caused it to jam and malfunction) so he sold it and got a regular gas AR.
So I would probably stay away from it, but maybe they improved on that (my buddy did buy his right when they came out with it)

One of the owners at my local gun store had one and it is now up on the wall at the store waiting to be sold. That should say alot.
I believe he is building one now with an adcor upper.
