Default My SUR philosophy

I'm looking into a SUR(sport utility rifle). I was thinking about an AR-15. Then I saw that AK's could be fixed up nicely and rounds are cheaper, so I started thinking about an AK. Then an SKS came up, well, I think they are clunky and crappy and I don't want an SKS,so there.

I did the old decision making process over the last three days and talked with several people about what they thought.

After weighing out the pros and cons I finally concluded that I need to just get what I want and I want an AR. Sure, I could get a cheap AK and go out and have loads of fun, but the AR would still be in my brain and I would end up selling it and getting what I wanted to begin with anyway, AFTER wasting loads of money and time.

I've settled on the AR, glad I thought this through.

Makes abundant sense to me Goju. Get the AR and enjoy it.

Goju,

I built two of the 7.62 SUR's on the AR lower and they shoot great, the only problem I've found is magazines. I can only find them in 30 and 10 round. The thirty is almost like the AR in it's curve and the 10 is really short. I haven't found anyone who makes a 20 which I think would be the best of both worlds. Cproducts makes the best mags for the 7.62 IMO. That is Glass's next project.

Y'know you can shoot Tula or Wolf, etc. steel case .223 in an AR for 20-25 cents a round... Pretty much the same cost as for the AK. Have your cake and eat it too!

Also, I have an AR, AK and SKS and can't understand why everyone doesn't as well! And not totally kidding here either, they're sure cheap enough to own all three.

My AR-15 has to be my favorite gun as far as looks, how it handles, and just the feel and the fun of it. But if i were to be in a SHTF situation I would definately go with the AK. It, in my opinion, is reliable beyond what the AR is in rough and rowdy conditions. It also has the beefier round, which definately helps. Also the SKS is more clunky and though fires the same cartridge the AK does, I feel is not what I would want for a fun or even hunting rifle. Some stand by their belief the SKS is more accurate than the AK, but I can kill a human sized target from 200-300 yards away just as easily with the AK.

These are my personal opinions, backed by my knowledge of handling and shooting these weapons. Thank you
