The Saiga is imported with only one "evil" feature, the detachable magazine. If you add more than one other feature you must be 922(r) compliant with 10 US made parts. A US mag adds three parts (body, base plate and follower). Many conversions utilize US parts to facilitate the conversion. A Tapco stock is a US part, a Tapco pistol grip is a US part. A Tapco trigger/disconnector adds two more parts. Not difficult to get to 10.

I think you might have the compliance numbers backwards. Each firearm is different, because you are required to have no more than ten foreign parts from the list on the gun. I think that's how it is determined, anyway. Some rifles don't even come with some of the parts on the list, so that reduces the number of US compliance parts needed.

I believe you are correct. No more than 10 imported parts. Sorry cranio-rectal inversion. I'm feeling much better now.

As long as you are not in one of the communist states that ban mags of that capacity altogether.

By the way... why was this thread marked "MUST READ"? It is not really a must read. If it was announcing a bill in the senate that would strip us of our 2nd amendment rights, THAT would be a must read...

There are 2 different types of Saiga rifles/shotguns. There are the original Izmash produced guns, then there are the Russian American Armory guns that fulfill the US parts requirement.

Because there are a lot of confused saiga owners out there that believe putting a 30 rd magazine on their rifles is illegal, hence the "Saiga Conversion" . I see a lot of forums with people doing, in my opinion, unnecessary work to their rifle just to have a higher capacity magazine..
I believe this IS a must read for saiga owners(especially the 7.62 model). I also understand the AK nuts out there who enjoy the conversion aspect and customizing their rifle and that is cool too ......
