Consider getting a Ruger SR-556, or an S&W M&P-15 in 5.56/223. Both are very good guns that will fit into the price range you mentioned in a caliber that's readily available and easy to control. There are others, but these were two models/makers that haven't been mentioned much here that would fill the requirements of the OP. I have an M&P and love it.

For example, a clip is a clip and a magazine is a magazine. Most people here know the difference, a few don't and another few don't really care. If those that do know want to point out the difference, that's fine, but let's not beat it into the ground or waste time and bandwidth by turning these posts into trivial gotcha games

You know, you could get a pretty solid M1 Garand for that much money. That is the most bad ass battle rifle off all time.

I vote wasr-10 7.62x39 with a tactical folder 6 position stock, with a quad rail front grip, then you will still have money left over for upgrading the sights, light/lazer, and vertical front grip.

Umm, the OP hasn't been online since the 23rd. Think maybe she was scared away?

I don't think she's the type to be scared off, something tells me she can hold her own. Besides no matter what some people here think (and go back and double check if you want), no one here has berated her grammar, spelling, choice in guns or anything else.

Right on the mark, thank you.
