All of the other guys are doing it, let's see some M1As. I've got a Springfield Scout Squad on order that may get here before they're banned. I plan on adding a Harris bipod, a scout scope and some goodies from Smith Enterprise. I'll add my pics once the rifle gets here and I get it put together.

A pair of Super National Match rifles that I bought new. I sanded the stocks smooth and refinished them, the stock in the foreground with Minwax Tung Oil Finish (Has varnish and drying agents), the stock in the background with Watco Danish Oil.

Beautiful wood on the near one. I had no idea that Springfield used such high quality wood. It saddens me even more that I canceled the order on my Scout Squad.

Both stocks are very attractive but the one in the foreground has more figure. Springfield does not spend much time on the stocks. Both were poorly finished having a lot of coarse sanding marks and that ugly dark brown stain. I sanded the both stocks with a progression of carbide paper from 220 to 1500 and then used a Scotchbrite green pad after lightly steaming the wood. After that I tacked them with a masking tape lint remover to lift out any sawdust and hand rubbed coats of finish into them twice a day for several days.

Depends on the model and stock material, but average is about 9 pounds empty.

The Super National Match has a heavier barrel and a heavier stock. IIRC they weigh close to eleven pounds empty.

Good choice.

Some people like to diss the M1A, but I've fired thousands of rounds through several of them over the years, without any problems.

They're not cheaply priced, but still worth every cent, IMHO.

Anybody who appreciates a good weapon and can afford it, won't be disappointed.
