M14 Poly-Tec
I decided to buy a M14 style rifle and have two choices right now. I can get a used PolyTec that looks like its in pretty good shape for $950, or I can buy a new Springfield Armory for $1650.
I would like to save the money, but I dont want to buy a POS. I had a Norinco SKS back in the 90's that was a pretty good gun, but ... What do I do? Is the new SA that much better? The SA model is the standard with black stock Springfield Armory |
If I remember correctly, the Polytech's had inconsistanty/improperly heat treated receivers. Some had bolt issues. Replacement with a GI bolt corrected that part. There were (and perhaps still are) some shops that would strip down your receiver and properly heat treat it. I do not know if there was a serial number series that had more or less problems.
I'm sure there are a few folk more learned than I on these guns. |
