I don't know if it takes just one, or three, or ten, or luck.
If you try and chamber a 30-06 in a 308 garand the bolt wont close. An idiot could pound it with a hammer, and its been done, THEN bad things happen...

No kidding! Not what I meant. If you chamber Superformance, a hot ammo, in either 30-06 M1 or .308 M1A. A bolt guy takes some of his hot loads from his 700 in 30-06 and throws it into an M1. I have not seen the result, only read that it happens.

Ive seen that happen. Last year some dude next bench over was bragging about his 3300fps 30-06 loads, my wife who knows almost nothing about handloading asked if we could move a few benches down... His rifle disassembled itself shortly after we moved.

Oops!
Many years ago one of the range regulars who liked to make hot loads for his
.38 super was lucky to have the slide just miss his head. Kind of like the hangfire thread. The incident did not cure him, and nobody would stand next to him on the firing line.

Heres one of mine

Exactly: I saw a Jackwagon do that with a 30-06 bolt gun. He made it to the second round.

Edit: Orlando, that is nice. Were they Navy Marksman team rifles? Issued to Seebees?

Note on Navy 7.62 NATO Garands- when the switch was made to the M-14, the navy was sorta last on the list to be issued M14s. The conversion was intended as a stopgap measure.

The original was a Garand with a chamber adapter. The adapter, supposed to be permanently installed, sometimes got ejected with a fired round. Hence the rebarreling.

Just ordered Privi Partisan 30-06 150gr FMJ Garand ammo from Todays Ammo.
10 boxes $161.00 including shipping. I use Privi .308 in my M1A, and .303 Enfield. It's good accurate ammo. Good brass for my reloads too.
If you use Ammoseek and put Garand in the key word box you will find plenty of 30-06 for your M1 Garand.
