I may be misunderstanding you and apologize if I am but the 30-06 and .30 carbine are two totally different rounds, the only thing the two rifles have in common are a stock screw.

Shooting ammunition with higher presures can damage the Op Rod and the Rifle.

Federal American Eagle Ammunition 30-06 Springfield (M1 Garand) 150 Grain Full Metal Jacket

It Also runs very nicely in the Surplus Semi-Auto altered BAR I inherited. I have 6 full boxes of it, Plus another half...

I took it apart already, I think the rear sight cover/spring is wore. I will replace that first then the read drum if it doesn't fix it. I may go with the schuster because it's going to be a shooter but if I can find a local source of m2 I won't waste the money

Thanks for that info. I understand. Someone probably mentioned Numrich for parts. I find stuff on EBay too.
Have a ball.

Default M1 Garand Ammo

I had 2.( sold one). Both 30-06. The one I kept is WWII vintage, but in better shape then the 1951 I sold. Someone Beat that one to heck and back. I inherited both from my Uncle, a former NYPD and a Gun/Sporting goods/LE store owner, and collector.
The only .308 I ever saw was at a Match when I was a reservist with 10th Mtn. Some Guy from the 4th ID's shooting team( Ft. Riley Ks.) was shooting it. The"Twang " of the stripper popping out was unforgettable...

In the 80's springfield armory built quite a few 308 garands.

For the op the schuster plug will let you shoot any commercial 30-06 165-168 or lighter loads.

You only need to stick to m1 specific loads if you are using the stock plug. Although i wouldnt run any hornady loading in any weight in it. They load their ammo hot hot hot.

Imagine how someone must feel after finally acquiring an M1 or M1A and excitedly chambers some Superformance, only to disastrous result.
I don't know if it takes just one, or three, or ten, or luck.
