bige,

I am with 25-5! If I do not shoot CMP Ammuntion made for the M-1 Garand with lower presure I also buy from Midway USA. Or as mentioned you can download your own if you reload.
Shooting ammunition with higher presures can damage the Op Rod and the Rifle.

Thanks for all of the info guys, I really appreciate it! I think picking up one of the shuster gas plugs may be my next move just so I don't do any damage to the op rod. Just need to get the rear sight fixed 😨. That thing has me steaming at the ears

What's wrong with your rear sight? Pictures?

The gas regulators are also a good idea! What is with the rear sight issue?
KJG just beat me out!
Sorry for the dupe!

If you have an M1 Garand and put a shuster in it. It isn't really an M1 anymore. Consider it's history. Lower pressure ammo is accurate and you are shooting an iconic firearm.

You need to take the rifle apart, including the rear sight. Replacement parts are available.

the gas plug threads in and out in seconds, looks almost identical to the original and is easily swapped back out, how is it losing any history?

It's just my opinion. I like to keep and shoot the milsurps as traditionally as I can. A lot of the M1 rifles have parts from all over. So it would make no difference anyway.
I also reload, so ammo is not the problem others have to deal with.
