Default Looking for something different...

I'm looking for a rifle for shtf situations and home defense, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for... The only requirements I have are that it be semi automatic with the capability for high capacity magazines, chambered in a fairly common caliber, and in a bullpup config. I don't have much money to spend and so far the only one that is similar to what I'm looking for is the MSAR, but the pricetag on it is over a thousand dollars. If anyone knows of something fairly inexpensive that fits the bill, please post up.

The Bullpup requirement makes it tough.

I know, but I want it to be as compact as possible.

I just googled Mini 14 stocks and found a Bullpup that gives you a length of 26 inches.

Is the keltec sub2000 too pistol-like? Got the common ammo and the compactness, but i wouldn't want to take a bear on with it.

edit* OK, the part about the bear isn't true; that could still be fun, maybe kinda painful.

Given your requirements, this is about the only thing I can think of...
AK47 bullpup

have you ever used a bullpup?? if not i suggest begging or borrowing or renting one first. i find them extremely clumsy. it offsets by a great deal any percieved advantage by really crappy trigger transfer bars and very unergonomic mag changes.

The Ak bullpup looks like an ergonomic nightmare...mag behind the trigger?

You might want to look into an AR pistol or bite the bullet and pay the $5 stamp for an AOW configuration...

All bullpup rifles are mag behind the trigger. They are a standard receiver in a shortened stock with a relocated trigger.
