Im in the market for a firearm, I dont have too much money, and want something thats big enough to have fun at the range and a effective home defense as well, if anyone knows some where they sell for cheaper, id appreciate the help

How much does one usually go for?

It varies; i paid about $325 or $350 for a Chinese model with an aftermarket stock and a little ammo. The availability of inexpensive ammo is what makes them a good deal (7.62x39mm).

How about a 12GA? Cheap models like the Mavrick 88 and Stevens 320 can be had for just north of $200 and are effective for home defense if that will be the primary purpose. Throw in another $100 and get a mosin for range fun .

If you would be OK with the giant-azz bayonet for the follow-up shot, you could spend about $100 and get a Mosin Nagant rifle, another $100 for about 400 rounds of ammo.

18 year olds cant buy handguns unless its from a private seller hmm yea id go with either an sks or a 12 guage you can put slugs in a 12 guage it throws some big azz slugs downrange and you can buy a rifled barrel that makes them fly even straighter its a really versatile tool you can use it for almost everything check out mossberg 500 they sell a combo barrel one short for home defense and one long when I was 18 that was my first gun and still love to this day.
