I wanted to buy an LAR-8 from RRA after I bought their NMA4 - I was amazed at the accuracy and quality of their .223 rifle. When I called them in Jan. of 08' to place the order, I was informed that they hadn't even started manufacturing the LAR-8 and that they were backordered 12 months! I couldn't wait, so I ordered a DPMS Panther LR-308B from "R" Guns. The cost was $849 (much less than the RRA) , it has an 18" bull barrel (.936") , a flat top A-2 stock, a 1:12 twist, and came with two 19 rd. magazines and a hard case. That gun is almost as accurate as my RRA .223 using factory ammo. I recently reloaded some ammo using very expensive bullets (Berger VLD 168gr. Match HPBT) and it made a 100 yd group that measured .40".
IMO this .308 is well worth the money. It's a heavy SOB, weighing in at over 10 lbs. , but for a long range SHTF weapon it can't be beat, not even by traditional bolt guns, of which I am a fan. I liked this gun so much that I ordered one for my son who recently returned from Iraq and will show me what he learned next week on my range!
