Default kel-tec sub2000 carbine

My buddy is looking at one at lgs for $475. Being in ma I would say it's slightly over priced as usual. Here is what gets me though the lgs is saying it is pre-ban. Weren't they introduced in 1996? I'm thinking it is illegal and also looking for input on quality etc.

Actually I believe they came out in 2001 and NIB they are going for more than MSRP which is $409. The Sub-9 was offered from 1997-2000.

Here is an informative site on it: http://mouseguns.com/sub2000/sub2000.htm

If that's the case. How is a folding gun legal if a collapsible stock isn't?

Not familiar with your states laws but most view a take down gun differently than a folding stock. I don't think the Kel Tek is capable of firing while in the folded position which would make it a take down gun.

The Sub2000 can not be fired when folded. The SU16C (223) can can be fired when folded. The SU16CA (CA compliant) can not be fired when folded.

I'm in ma. My buddy bought it. I just get nervous when an ffl says a gun is pre-ban when it was made after the cut-off date. I guess if it isn't legal it's on the ffl

Yeah is this a new FFL? I know I'm a wet behind the ears when it comes to being a FFL but it doesn't take much to ensure that you are in compliance with state laws when it comes to those things.

Yes he is brand new. I'd hate to see him get into trouble this early. This is a tough state to stay ahead of the laws in.
