Hearing the Ping

I bought a Garand a few months ago, but haven't had anywhere to shoot it. None of the local indoor ranges allow surplus ammo and the outdoor ranges want membership money. So I finally found a place out in the desert to give it a try. Video here.

Just a friendly word of advice, you may want to practice the correct way to load. It was a little hard to tell from the video but you may be inviting a case of M1 Thumb if I saw correctly.

place your palm on operating rod with your palm facing gun and heel on op rod
press down on clip with thumb untill it clicks rotate you hand upward bringing you thumb up and out and letting the rod go forward, some give the rod a push when it is home.

I love my Garand as well but some times I get a double ping. The enblock clip will eject straight up and bounce off my dome. Great video, you can really see the power of the 30-06 in the shockwave it creates on the dirt road. My loading technique, I hold the rifle in my right hand loop index finger over op rod handle and load with left hand.
