I do have a Romey AK that works well at 100yds.
And this Colt that reaches out a few more yards.

You might want to stay with the AR platform. You can upgrade caliber and ballistic performance by simply purchasing a new upper. Take a look at the .204 Ruger, or the 6mm class. The Midway catalogue has an extensive selection, take a browse through it and see - you can go all the way to .5 Beowulf. Recoil wise the AR platform will treat you the best IMHO no matter what the caliber choice. |

I'd prefer to buy something with a piston system. Budget isn't a concern, because I'm willing to save up and research for a good gun. I'm not new to the gun world, but I would like some additional help. Thanks.

Research the M14/M1A rifles then. Reliable, accurate, versatile. 7.62x51mm.

This one is mine.

Try a BAR in 300 win mag. You will be able to deliver "hurt" from the muzzle to 1000 yards. The gas action tames the recoil. If it still is a bother, a softer butt pad will take it down to powder puff levels. It's got much less felt recoil than my pump .30-06. |
