Hey guys. I would like to purchase a rifle that can hurt someone without taking out my shoulder/half of my body. I've shot an M4 standing, prone, and kneeling with pretty good accuracy. However, I want something with a bigger caliber and more powerful. Is there anything out there that I can look into? Let's say I don't live in California, so there are relatively few restrictions. I'd prefer to buy something with a piston system. Budget isn't a concern, because I'm willing to save up and research for a good gun. I'm not new to the gun world, but I would like some additional help. Thanks. |

Are you planning on hurting someone specifically, or just in general? I've never been shot, but I bet they all hurt... __________________ From C3Shooter:

the higher the caliber and more force the bullet imparts the more recoil it is going to have. there is no practical way around that.
a compensator can alleviate a lot of recoil by using the gas leftover to pull the gun forward as the recoil pushes it back offsetting a portion of it. the problem with compensators is that few if any work that well to begin with and are much louder when fired. this still is not however a real solution and it is merely a matter of degree.
the .223/5.56 is already a fairly recoil free round. next in line is the 7.62x39 but it is not a terribly accurate round and has poor ability to hold its energy as it extends its range.
the other way around recoil is adding weight to the weapon. the lighter the gun the more felt recoil you will have. lots of big game hunters use recoil pads and mercury fillled capsules to offset the recoil of big game rifles.
try a larger AR type M4 are leightweight weapons. the AR15A2 or something along the lines of the ruger SR556 are a nice compromise of power to less felt recoil. |

Take a look at 6.8 Rem SPC, .450 Bushmaster or .458 SOCOM. each can be fired from the AR platform, so you retain the buffer system, which reduces felt recoil. |

Look for a Cetme. 7.62x51, semi auto, no recoil to speak of. I love mine. G3 parts fit, including scope mounts. I put together a counter sniper clone. Awesome rifle.

I was going to say an AK47 7.62x39. Its got quite a punch to it, low recoil (kick back) and is accurate enough for anything you will be doing with it most likely. I would give it to about 100 yards. __________________ Nut up or Shut up! |

A PSL will give you some range and punch, 7.62x54r.
About the same recoil as an AK. __________________ KGB
