An AR-15 (even from a kit) is going to be more than $500.

If it were me I'd be hanging out on the forums with firearms for sale to get a grip on pricing.

Check out PSA Ammunition, Magazines, Rifle Parts, Bulk Ammo and Rifle Accessories – Palmetto State Armory for rifle kits, complete uppers and lower build kits. You can definately come in under $700 and still have a very nice rifle.

$500 might be hard but you can get close.

Palmetto State Armory 16" M4 Standard Rifle Kit

Add a Aim surplus lower for $80. That should get you 95% of the way there.

Good luck
