LOTS of M1 Thumb in military high school/ROTC. The armorer ( a student) also figured removal of that little pin in the magazine well that allows all the guts to fly out when the slide is pulled back.

Several hundred cadets did that during an inspection by General Curtis Lemay.
The drill field and other school grounds never looked so clean as in the few weeks after that event.

Always loved the Garand.

Default Seen it three time in a row

I was in a gunshop where a customer was checking out a Garand. One of the employees demonstrated how to load it and then handed the rifle over. The customer instantly slammed his thumb into the action. He tried it again and slammed his thumb once more. Now, everyone in the store was watching the third attempt...and to everyones dismay, he slammed his very raw looking thumb again and bought the rifle anyway.
