Default Bolt or Semi .308?

In March I have a hog Hunt planned in Southern Missouri. I'm trying to decide whether to buy a bolt .308 or AR10. I know my AR15 would more than likely do the job... But my wife doesn't need to know that. Here's the criteria.

1. I live in IL so .308 would mainly be for target practice and occasional hog hunt since they are not legal for deer.
2. I reload. Currently just .223, but could easily get setup for .308. Just need to get FL or Neck sizing dies depending on gun.
3. Guns already owned: Ruger 10/22, semi-auto 12g shotgun, G17, 16" BCM/Spikes AR 15 with 6-20x50 Simmons WTC scope on a Burris pepr QD mount.
4. I have a bin full of mil spec AR parts(miad, midlength moe, RRA Car stock, carbine buffer, etc)
5. $1,500 max budget.

I like that my scope could be easily moved to another AR platform leaving more $ for gun. Also, the AR parts could be put to use. A bolt gun should be less $ but then I have rings and a scope to purchase. Given the above info, what would you recommend I add to the safe....first?

I borrowed this from the AR section, but all the opinions you should need are in this thread.

Yeah, I read that thread previously. I'm sure the 5.56 will do the job. The hog hunt is helping sell the fact that I NEED another gun. My question is bolt .308 or semi .308? Any advice?

I'm not a hunter, but why is the .308 not legal for deer?

I'm looking for a .308 AR-10 style also, so I'm curious what people say. I'm looking at the S&W M&P10, the DPMS, or the new Ruger. I'm shooting plastic and paper though.

Personally I'd suggest a good solid .308 bolt action. Take your time with each shot. Hogs are fast and run kinda wild. You won't have much chance if you just spray the area and hope something connects.

Just my opinion.

Interesting, thanks! Is it the same in Iowa? That's where I grew up and I never heard anyone mention it.

For those saying an M1A, that's a big, heavy gun compared to the AR10 copies being talked about.
