Bummer you can't have an M14 there. I would be very lost without my M14's.
Ohh, I thought the M1As had the 18inch barrel. That's bad ass. Must admit, I don't know that much about semi-automatics, though I'd like too xD

My battle rifles:
1. M1A - NM Heavy Barrel with Troy SASS Upgrade
2. Rock River LAR 8 with Lazer, 3x9 Scope and piggy backed red dot

Why go in to clear a house when I can just shoot through it?

Pretty enough to bring a tear to my eye....

When I finished building the M1A, I just sat there looking at it on the bench, think I got a little teary eyed myself!

If you didn't tear up a little I'd be worried.

The 5.56mm is a varmint round. The M16 rifle has not been used in heavy combat since Vietnam. In my opinion, it is a horrible design. The Russians issued the AK 74 in a 5.45 round but they made the bullet hollow in the front which makes the round tumble. Please look at the 100 yard energy of the 5.56 verse the 30 caliber carbine. The 5.56mm might make a good police round but it is a horrible battle round. Talk to any experienced combat vet and they will verify my opinion. The AK 47 will fire every time you pull the trigger but will your AR 15 or M16?? I have fired them all. This post will fall on many death ears and make some of you REMF`s angry but maybe some of you will listen.

Please excuse one on my terms.

The original M193 55gr high velocity 5.56 rd was devastating.

The current 62gr M855 works like an ice pick and is an uninspiring performer.

The 77gr Mk262 kills very well.

I keep 55gr ball stacked deep and am completely confident in it's ability on targets that are not "protected".

Very few combat vets or deer hunters will agree with you.

Don't confuse the dismal failure of the early M16 rifles in combat with a failure of the effectiveness of the M193 ammo on soft targets. The VC and NVA were deathly afraid of the lethality of the M16.

I've known several guys who have used the 5.56 against people and have been 100% satisfied with the results.

And I have little to no faith in any .22 caliber on deer.

My go to rifle is an M14, but the 5.56 is viable choice, especially with some of the commercial ammo on the market.

Patret,

I've got to agree with you, the 16 sucked. I was fortunate enough to finish my tours before that piece of crap was issued. The new models might be a whole lot better, but I'll still put my trust in my M14.

What drop zone is that in your avatar?
