AR-10 (DPMS LR-308) questions. Please help
I am new to my dpms lr-308 and i am trying to find out if there is a kit or upper or some other method that would allow me to use my new rifle with .22lr. I know that this is not a typical set up for conversion but i cant believe that no one else has done this.
As of now i am figuring that i will need a different upper, some sort of bolt kit, and mag conversion. Any help would be great. Thank you, SH Also i bought the DPMS model LR-308 but it seems as though it is actually the 7.62 sportical, is there any way to identify the rifle other than the way it looks because the lower say .308 yet the upper (barrel) is stamped with 7.62. |

Uhhhhm - 7.62 x 51mm is dimensionally the same as the .308....and there is no such thing as a "7.62 Sportical". The DPMS Sportical is 5.56 only. There are several companies that make .22lr conversions for AR-15's, but NOT for AR-10's. Everything on the AR-10 is much bigger than the AR-15 and hence, nothing is interchangeable. I too have a DPMS LR-308B, and at over 10lbs. in weight, the last thing I would want is to convert it to a .22 rifle...Incidentally, proper protocol when you join a forum is to stop in to the "Introductions" thread and let everyone know who you are! Welcome. |
If you would like, i have a marlin model 60 .22LR that i would be glad to swap with you until you want to shoot .308 & can find me. :D

I know it is what they call the 7.62 sportical i am not sure about when they came out with it. I also im not looking to convert it full time to the .22 i just would like to be able to use it without having to spend the $.50 per round. the principles are all the same with the rifle just alot cheaper to us the .22 round. believe me i bought this rifle in the .308/7.62 because i wanted all that went with having that caliber. i am very excited about this rifle though, i have only put 40 rounds through it and have loved it so far, now i just need more money to spend on it.

You might as well buy a new gun. The conversion is possible on a 5.56 platform, but not .308. The barrel is too big on a .308.

well i have two rifles already chambered .22 so im fine with those, and im not looking to spend alot more. i just figured there are many conversion for many different guns why not this one. its no big deal and as i do some research i dont see any way to do it without a new upper and thats to much money
