I am thinking of ordering my first AK-47, what would be a good company to get it from? Also what is the best stock to get?

Arsenal and Vector both make quality AKs. Imports from Egypt and China are also of decent quality. I would avoid Century, with the exception of the Yugoslavian Underfolders. The 'smith's there seem to be drunk when working on their AKs.

As far as the "best stock," it all depends on what you want to do with it. I usually stick with a fixed, original stock.

Try Classic Arms. He usually has plenty of different makers available.

I have a Norinco MAK-90 that I took off the thumbhole stock and put a plastic, more functional and cool looking stock on it. It's fit and finish are good and it shoots well enough. Never had a problem with it after many hundreds of rounds of Wolf and S&B ammo.

After about a hundred rounds, my finger hurts from the trigger slap but that can be fixed.

I'm considering an AK as well. Here's the website for Russian-American Armory: click on "Distributors" and you'll see a bunch of links.

Atlantic Firearms has a special going on that I'd like to jump on: a Romanian AK with 2 30-round magazines, mag pouch, bayonet, cleaning kit, oiler, and carrying case for $439.

Here's the site for FBMG, Inc. They have some great deals on Saiga rifles, basically Russian-made AK sporters; they can put you in a 7.62 Russian model for under $300.

Good hunting. As soon as I have the $, I'll be joining you...
