MrRecon lool at jeremy's rifle. Notice how he took off the original stock and put on an adjustable stock with built in pistol grip. It's a way around converting. Notice how theres still a gap between the trigger group and the mag release. Thats one way to go. Like I said, IMO converting is the best way to go and it's worth the effort

What do you mean by IMO? And Even though he changed the stock can he use normal mags?

Saiga rifles don't have an AK bullet guide, that's what keeps the mags from working, install a bullet guide and you can use the AK mags. The stock has nothing to do with the mags. The stock shown doesn't require any conversion and installs in minutes. If you want a true AK look, you need to move the trigger forward, as others have said, I would use a conversion kit. It sounds a bit overwhelming, but from what I hear, even a beginner can do it.

Arsenal Inc. converts them for sale, but they go for between $800-$1000. Convert it yourself and save a ton, It doesn't get any cooler than a Russian made AK.

I saw bullet guides for 20 dollars and I think I'm going to buy one with my new Saiga AK 7.62

I wanna keep the price under $600 so if anyone can give me suggestions on either the caliber or a brand of AK that would be awesome!!!!
IMHO,I'd say the crux of your decision should focus on whether you desire

the punch of the 7.62, or accuracy of the 5.45.

Accuracy, of course, generally costs more...

Yeah true and isn't the 7.62 more common to find compared to 5.45

If you don't mind the corrosive stuff the 5.45 is CHEAP.
The 7.62 x 39is not too bad for the surolus either but not as affordable as 5.45x39.5.

But if surplus was to ever dry up, the 7.62 would still be readily available, I wouldn't bet on it fir the 5.45 unless the popularity keeps picking up.

I think I would go with the 5.45 if I had to choose one.

Accuracy - 5.45 x 39
Range - 5.45 x 39
Ammo cost - 5.45 x 39
Knockdown - 7.62 x 39
Ammo availability - 7.62 x 39
Recoil - 5.45 x 39

The 5.45X39 is far more effective as a military round than the 7.62X39.

That's why the old Soviet Union adopted it as standard in 1974.

I have a saiga 545 and use standard Russian mags with no problems. The 545 really doesn't need a bullet guide to use normal AK mags.
