Default .458 socom

One of my buddies is trying to talk me into buying a .458 SOCOM from Rock River Arms. I was just curious if any of you have one or what you have heard about them? The only thing I know is that I'd have to load my own ammo to be able to afford to shoot it. I also can't say that I really need it, would just be fun to own.

Its a great round. Kinda like a semiauto 45-70. Ive got the rra socom and its pretty accurate. Reloading is a must.

Great gun, but expensive to shoot even if you reload.

That can be somewhat overcome if you cast your own lead gas check bullets.

The casting and reloading is half the fun IMHO.

I wouldnt shoot lead out of one unless you like buying gas tubes frequently. Gas checking doesnt stop lead clogging the gasport. While a gasport can be cleaned the tube cant without extremely poisonous residue as the result from lead acetate.

Working on the bolt for the 458 socom i have had alot of problems with the face of the bolt cracking. It seems to be a reacuring problem with the 458 and 50beo. Crack from the lock lug thru the face to where the rim of the case sits.

I run Linotype gas checked bullets and never have found lead specs in a DI system. You can run 2,000 FPS with no problems.

Well I finally bought one on gunbroker.com, I'm just waiting for it to be delivered. Now all I need to do is somehow find ammo for it. Does anyone have any feedback on SBR? I'll post some pics as soon as it arrives

SBR is handling the bulk of the 458SOCOM support for rifles, parts and ammo. They have a bit of a lead time but the ammo is good and you end up with the spent brass which you can use to reload with.
