Default .308 rifle for $1000

I'm looking for a .308 autoloader for deer hunting and SHTF. Don't know much about them but I'd like to keep the rifle in the 1k range. Thoughts?

For a 1000$ you should be able to find a decent FAL. To fill both roles id probably look at one of these. Or a .308 AK is in that price range as well.

Who makes FAL rifles?

I see DSA arms but they are more in the $1500 range. I'd prefer the AR-10 platform just from a maintenance standpoint.

Look at the DPMS LAR 308. A good AR type. Accuyrate, reliable and rugged.

I'd get the fluted barrel for sure. If you can find it for 1k you have a pretty good rifle for the money.
