Default Remington vs. Colt?

Do the Remington revolvers have the accuracy to take rabbits and frogs the way the Colts do?

Default Remington or Colt designs?

Hello all

RON L here = SERESURPLUS

I have owned the COLT as well as the REMINGTON designs of cap and Ball revolver! In my exepriance, I thought the Remington Degins had a better site picture due to the groove in the top of the reciever, as opposed to the Notch in the hammer of the Colt? I've taken small game with Both, So you should have No issue with that, either gun works fine!

Either gun (whether Army or Navy model,) is easily capable of taking "small" (depending wholly upon yer definition if "small" -) game. A 1858 Remington NMA (charged with 30 grains bp and a Kaido Ojaama cast 240gr .44 bullet -) was reported to deliver over 530 ft/lb's of energy on target (good enough for deer)!

One of those Uberti 1858 carbines (using the same load described above,) delivered over 672 ft/lb's! The bullets were all cast from dead-soft lead (ask me how I know -) and fired using 30 grains of black powder (Olde Einsford)!

I've killed two deer with a BP pistol - Ruger Old Army .44. One had broken leg but still walking. The other was from a tree stand about 25 feet away. I use round balls mostly, but have experimented with cast bullets a bit. My 1858 Remington is more accurate than my Colt. Old Army beats them both. Tingle .40 single-shots out shoot them all. Anyway ..yes, the Remington C/B is as accurate as a Colt.

Shooting rabbits and frogs with a .44 or .36 will leave you with pieces of rabbits and frogs.

Gents- I would gently point out the date of the thread that you are responding to-

and remind you that in keeping with our long established practice here, you are each honor bound to go stand on your front lawn and sing Happy Birthday to the thread from 2007.

Wow. The 870 vs M500 or Glock vs 1911 of the 1800s.

Putting on conical celebratory hat now. If I'm not back in five minutes, don't send out a search party.
