Ouch !

Grabbed a smoke pole off the rack the other day & low and behold, it was loaded & had been that way for a YEAR !!!!!!!!!!

If it was clean when it was loaded no harm done. They can stay loaded for decades and still be fine.

It was not, it had been shot 5 or 6 times. Black tar looking stuff just rolled out of it when I ran a brush & Dawn down it, but it`s good now, don`t look no worse for wear or at least no worse than any other BP bore I have seen.....

You got lucky!!!

I have seen em ruined after sitting dirty for a year. Black powder fouling is extremely corrosive.

That is what I thought when I realized it was loaded, but like you said I got lucky..........

That is lucky. Me not so much. Kid took my Hawken out last Summer, burned some powder and hung it back on the wall because he was going to shoot it again the next day (I did not know this). The next day never came until I was going to shoot it to see if I was going to use it for deer hunting this year. As soon as I took it off the wall I knew what had happened. Pushed a patch down the bore and a cloud of rust dust shot out the nipple. The bore is pitted pretty bad. It wasn't a tack driver before, now it's just a wall hanger.
